WEANING RECEPIES


As per the American Academy of Pediatrics, a new born infant has to be breast-fed for the first six months. Nowadays it has become really tough for a mother to feed her child frequently, Moreover if she is a working woman.

Weaning is the process by which an infant's dietary pattern is gradually changed from liquid foods like breast milk and substitute milk-preparations to cooked solid food. It is the process by which the infant gradually becomes accustomed to adult diet.



Ragi porridge (3 months):
Ingredients:
Ragi flour: 15 gms
Water: 6 oz
Milk: 2 oz
Sugar-2 tsp
Procedure:
1. Roast ragi flour for 1-2 minutes. Remove from fire.
2. Bring the milk to boil. Add powdered aval and stir until well cooked.
3. Add jaggery (grated) to the above mixture.
4. When the jaggery dissolves, remove from fire.

Mango porridge (5 months):
Ripe mango(peeled) - 25 gm
Green gram dal (roasted and powderede) – 10 gm
Jaggery – 25 gm
Milk – 100 gm
Procedure:
1. Steam mango and mash it finely.
2. Dissolve jaggery in 1/8th cup water and atrain.
3. Boil the milk and add powdered dal. Stir well untill the mixture is slightly thick.
4. Remove from fire. When the milk is cooled, add the jaggery and mashed mango. Mix well.

Fish balls (8 months):
Ingredients:
Fish:20 gm spinach: 20 gm minced onion: 1/2 tsp
Potato:15 gm oil: 1 tsp minced ginger: 1/4th tsp
minced garlic: 1/4th tsp salt: to taste
procedure:
1. Steam the fish, remove bones and mash.
2. Boil potato and mash.
3. Heat oil in frying pan. Add minced onion, ginger and garlic followed by minced spinach. Fry for 1 to 2 mts.
4. Add 1 tbsp of water. Cover and cook on a slow fire until the spinach is tender.
5. Add the mashed fish and potato and keep on stirring until the ingredients are well blended. Add salt. Remove from the fire and form into balls.

Three-in-one patties(10 months):
Ingredients:
Egg:1 Potato: 25 gms
Cheera(minced): 10 gm salt: to taste
procedure:
1. Hard boil the egg and remove the yolk
2. Boil potato and steam cheera and mash well.
3. Add the mashed ingredients to the egg yolk and mix well. Add salt.
4. S hape into 4 small balls, flatten them and roast on a tawa(without oil) until light brown.
