Immunization



Immunization is the process whereby a person is made immune or resistant to an infectious disease. In this process, the individual's immune system becomes fortified against an foreign body. Immunization can be achieved by many means, typically by the administration of a vaccine. Vaccines stimulate the body’s own immune system to protect the person against subsequent infection or disease. Edward Jenner first coined the terms vaccine and vaccination.
