Peptic Ulcer Disease


A peptic ulcer is the break in the integrity of the mucosal lining of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. PUD develops when the protective mechanisms of the gastrointestinal mucosa, are overwhelmed by the damaging effects of gastric acid and pepsin.
